February 22, 2009

Dear Spelman and Morehouse Class of 1999 Alumni,

Our ten-year college reunion is fast approaching! Relive the moment of stepping onto our respective campuses for the first time, eagerly anticipating the freedom and new experiences that college life would bring. Reminisce with your closest friends on the time you spent playing endless rounds of spades, eating Krispy Kreme donuts in the dorm, hanging out at Lower Manley and Kilgore, catching buses to go to parties, and grooving to the sounds of the Fugees, Maxwell, Tupac, and Biggie. Reclaim the vision you had in college of achieving great feats and making significant differences in the lives of others. Recommit yourself to the institutions that intimately connect us and make us uniquely prepared to execute our visions with great skill, confidence, and grace. Let us welcome you back to our beloved alma maters, Spelman and Morehouse, during May 14-17, 2009, for our ten-year reunion.

Our Reunion Planning Committee has been working diligently to plan class activities that will be both fun and affordable for all. For Thursday evening, we are planning a welcome mixer. On Friday night, we will relive some of those memories from Lower Manley, but this time we will we be at one of Atlanta’s exclusive party venues without those buses that once had to transport us. During Saturday afternoon, we will have a family-friendly picnic with food, drinks, games, and music. If you are hoping for an opportunity to just relax, relate, and release, these are events you do not want to miss!

Spelman alumnae should also be mindful that our class has the privilege and honor of hosting Spelman’s Reunion Convocation in Sister’s Chapel on Friday, May 15 th at 10:00 a.m. Confirmed classmates who have volunteered to participate on the program thus far include Paula Montgomery Rodney, Lisa Lee Green, Malikha Mallette, Stacey A. Frazier, Dimeka W. Nichols, Heather Joy Thompson, and Lekishia Moffett White. Please make plans to support these sisters in our class, to greet the graduating class of 2009, and to share a very special convocation with other alumnae celebrating reunion.

Acknowledging the reality that these are financially difficult times for many of us, we have set the registration fees with all of our sisters’ and brothers’ circumstances in mind. If you register early, before March 22nd , the fee is only$50.00 per person. If you register after March 22nd, the fee is $75.00 per person through May 1st. These fees apply to spouses and significant others as well, but there will be no fee for children who attend the picnic. As many of our events require the payment of deposits soon, we urge you to register TODAY by sending a check made payable to “Nicole Jenkins or SC/MC Class of 1999.” Checks also may be made payable to “Nicole Jenkins” with “SC/MC Class of 1999” in the memo section. Checks must be made payable as specified to be accepted by the bank. Checks should be sent to Nicole Lawson Jenkins, 3109 Silver Hill Terrace SE, Atlanta, Georgia 30316. Alternatively, we invite you in the upcoming week to visit our reunion website, www.spelhouse99.com, where you will be able to make your payment online. All receipts will be provided electronically, so please be sure to include your email address with any correspondence.

As we have made registration fees for our class activities so affordable, we sincerely hope that you will take time or make plans today to make a gift to Spelman and/or Morehouse in the amount of $99.00. As most of you are aware, our alma maters are facing great financial challenges, particularly due to declining student enrollment directly related to the inability of students to secure sufficient financial assistance. Show your commitment to and love for our schools and our current students by making your unrestricted financial gift. Gifts to Spelman’s Annual Fund may be made by visiting https://jaguar4.spelman.edu/Donation.nsf/Donationv3. Gifts to Morehouse may be made by visiting https://www.morehousealumniandfriends.com/efr/index.asp.

Finally, do remember that Spelman and Morehouse both have planned wonderful events separate from our class activities for all classes celebrating reunion. Information about events planned by Spelman and the associated registration costs is available at http://www.spelman.edu/reunion/greetings, and information about the events planned by Morehouse should soon be forthcoming. As the tie that binds us reaches beyond our own class, please make plans to share in these events with the other classes celebrating reunion.

We look forward to seeing ALL of you in May!

Yours for Spelman and Morehouse,

Nicole Lawson Jenkins
